During the early morning hours of Tuesday May 28, 1991 Beech Grove Police Lieutenant Thomas L. Kleis made the ultimate sacrifice when he was killed in the line of duty. Lt. Kleis was in pursuit of suspects in a stolen vehicle when his police vehicle left the roadway and crashed. Lt. Kleis was killed in the motor vehicle crash. The two suspects were later apprehended and charged with Involuntary Manslaughter, Reckless Homicide, multiple Vehicle Thefts, and Fleeing Law Enforcement.
Please join the Beech Grove Police Department and members of the Kleis family of survivors as they honor the memory of Lt. Thomas Kleis with the placement of a Fallen Officer Plaque near where Tom lost near where Tom lost his life in service to members of this community.

This is the 25th Anniversary of Tom's death and the date of July 7 was chosen as it is Tom's birthday. All are welcome to attend, and if you know someone who was working in law enforcement at the time of Tom's death or was just friends with Tom and his family please make them aware of this event
