IMPD Officer Shortage — Message to Indy
Today (4/22/24), our Indy FOP PAC launched a brand new Billboard in Downtown Indianapolis
The Billboard highlights the dangerous Officer Shortage the IMPD is facing
The message is simple, yet powerful: “We can’t help, if we’re not there”
IMPD Down ↓ 350 Officers
This billboard is on I-70 EB between Harding and West at the West Street Exit (in case you want to check it out)
It is one of the most viewed billboards in all of Indy and is clearly visible to any visitors traveling into Downtown from the Airport
This Message will run through the middle of the Month of May in our Capital City and is just in time before the Primary Elections for the Statehouse
It is estimated the sign will have over 1.1 Million views during this time
This sign should help educate voters, candidates, business owners and visitors as to the #1 issue facing our Officers (Officer Retention and Staffing)
We appreciate this approach to inform the public and educate about the concerns of police officers and their families
Feel free to share the image with others to help spread the word
Well done FOP PAC 86 Committee!
Rick Snyder,
President

FOP STATEMENT ON DISMISSAL OF DEATH PENALTY BY PROSECUTOR
"Our Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police learned today (1/24/2024) of the decision by the Marion Prosecutor Ryan Mears to dismiss the request for the death penalty filed on the defendant in the Murder of IMPD Officer Breann Leath.
This step is obviously a disappointment for our members while awaiting Justice to be served nearly (4) four years since the murder of Officer Leath.
We look forward to better understanding the basis for this decision.
While frustrating, we remain focused on supporting the Leath family and have confirmed their understanding of the process and next steps.
We also collectively remain focused on the Prosecutor pursuing accountability for the remaining Murder and related charges to the fullest extent of the law.
We welcome the opening of the trial as scheduled next month."
STATEMENT FROM INDY FOP ON ACTING CHIEF APPOINTMENT
“Today (1/10/2024) we learned of Mayor Hogsett’s appointment of Assistant Chief Chris Bailey to Acting Chief.
The IMPD is at a critical stage and needs continuity of leadership while maintaining the momentum that is beginning to take root in our City.
Acting Chief Bailey has taken assertive steps to put the logistics in place for the IMPD to fully leverage investments in technology and his leadership has been paramount on the formation and implementation of the Crime Gun Intelligence Center for Indianapolis and our surrounding partners in the Metro region.
We cannot afford to take any steps back and this move allows our police officers and detectives to continue driving down crime and violence.
Most importantly, the community we serve benefits from forward momentum and uninterrupted professional police service.”
